Metall Zug Group: SHL Medical AG plans combined production and office building at Tech Cluster Zug

Zug, 12 November 2020 – Further progress has been made in developing the Tech Cluster Zug. In collaboration with SHL Medical AG, an invitation to submit design and development plans has been launched for the "Südtor" building lot in the south of the Tech Cluster Zug site. The intention is to create a combined production and office building. SHL Medical AG plans to manufacture drug delivery systems for the pharma industry at this site from 2024. As landowner, Urban Assets Zug AG, a subsidiary of Metall Zug AG, will construct the building and rent it out to SHL Medical AG.

SHL Medical is a global player in the design, development and manufacture of advanced drug delivery systems such as autoinjectors, pen injectors, and wearable drug delivery systems. Until now, SHL Medical has combined first-class manufacturing in Asia with global design visions and the strengths of Western management practices to offer clients first-class products and services. SHL Medical has 5,200 employees across its worldwide locations.

In 2018, SHL Medical established its corporate headquarters in Zug (CH) as a means to intensify its global expansion strategy. Building a new site in Zug will fortify SHL Medical’s presence in Europe and put its manufacturing capabilities at the doorstep of the European market. It will also allow SHL Medical to set up greener supply chains.

The V-ZUG Group and Metall Zug Group have shown that running production operations in Switzerland is possible. The Tech Cluster Zug, where V-ZUG is currently investing in modern, digitized production facilities and buildings for the manufacture of household appliances, is also the ideal location for SHL Medical AG to expand its business. In addition, the Tech Cluster Zug with its industrial ecosystem and its focus on sustainability and its future-oriented building and energy supply solutions were a decisive factor in SHL Medical's choice of location.

Therefore, the "Südtor" building lot, the first to be opened up to third parties outside the Metall Zug Group and V-ZUG Group, can now be developed with a preferred partner. V-ZUG AG will move out of the building lot in question as planned over the next two years, as it no longer needs this space. HandwerkStadt Zug will move to the ground floor of the Mobility-Hub Zug. It will then be possible to construct the new office and production building so that SHL Medical can move in on schedule. As landowner, Urban Assets Zug AG, a subsidiary of Metall Zug AG, will construct the building and rent it out to SHL Medical AG.

The winning project in the competition that has now been launched and in which Bauart Architekten und Planer, EM2N Architekten, Graber & Steiger Architekten and Penzel Valier AG have been invited to take part, is likely to be awarded in March 2021.
